Unite for Fair Prices

FUW President Emyr Jones has called on farmers throughout the UK to unite and achieve a fair price for all that they produce. He wants the industry to put union affiliation to one side and come together, much as happened with SOS Dairy in 2012.

Mr Jones recalled the day that 2,500 producers gathered in Westminster Hall, London, and the support the FUW gave to NFU Scotland in Lanark. He was speaking on the eve of the Welsh Dairy Event in Carmarthen, amid growing anger and concern over dairy price cuts.

He said: “I think we should come together as farmers to unite in asking for a fairer price for what we produce. And that’s with beef, lamb and milk.

“We can’t be expected to carry on producing food at a loss. We have got to have a profit at the end of the day. We would be much stronger if all the stakeholders who involved in the industry came together.”
