A Nuffield Scholarship is an opportunity not to be missed

With the 31 July deadline for Nuffield Scholarship applications fast approaching, results from a recent survey of Scholars reveals a resounding endorsement for the ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity.

Of the 48 Scholars surveyed, 92% say that they would take part in the scholarship again if the opportunity arose, with 74% describing the Scholarship as both life-changing and rewarding.

Around 20 Nuffield Scholarships are awarded annually and offer the chance for individuals to learn and explore topics of interest in the UK and abroad. The Scholarship lasts a total of two years and entails undertaking a study with international travel for at least eight weeks.

Of the respondents who took part in the recent survey, almost 70% had travelled to between three and six different countries having been awarded a Scholarship.

Mike Vacher, Nuffield Director explains, “With the deadline now imminent, I would like to encourage eligible applicants to apply.

“We welcome applications from individuals connected with agricultural, horticultural and land-based sectors. We are looking for forward thinking and innovative candidates who are committed to driving change in their industry.”
Scholarship offers successful applicants significant career development opportunities and for those integral to a family business, it’s a chance to take a step back from the day-to-day routine and to study a subject of personal interest.

The survey results highlight that 88% of Scholars felt that their Nuffield Scholarship experience had improved their careers or businesses.

Nuffield invite applications from individuals who must be three years or more post tertiary education and have been engaged in farming, rural land-based industries, the food sector or other agriculturally associated industries for at least two years, and intend to remain in their industry. Applicants should be under 45 years of age. The application process is straightforward and requires one online form to be submitted (available from www.nuffieldscholar.org). Prospective Scholars do not need academic qualifications. The deadline to apply is 31 July 2014.
