The Independent

Here is a tale that will interest the Daily Mail, with its record for exposing those who enjoy subsidies from the EU. The FarmSubsidy website, which tracks EU payments, reports that the 14,000-acre Langwell Estate, near Ullapool, received a €300,408 (£247,800) grant in 2012, of which €287,000 came from the Agriculture Fund for Rural Development, which supports “diversification of the rural economy”. The Langwell Estate, which is marketed to attract shooting and fishing parties, is the property of Paul Dacre, editor of the Daily Mail.
