Bristol Post

Bristol East MP Kerry McCarthy who has been given a post in Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet has pledged to continue her opposition to badger culling.

She has been given the job of Shadow Environment Secretary which means she can expect to clash head-to-head with the National Farmers’ Union that strongly supports culling to prevent the spread of tuberculosis among cattle.

Ms McCarthy, a long-standing leading campaigner against culling and who wants to see it replaced with a programme of vaccination, told the Post: “I’m not going to drop my opposition to the badger cull because of the NFU – it’s Labour policy that the culling is expensive, ineffective and inhumane (a policy that wasn’t decided by a vegan!)”.
