Meat and dairy from the UK showcased at SIAL Paris

Quality cuts of beef, lamb and pork as well as a selection of dairy products from the UK were showcased in Paris last week at one of the largest and leading food fairs in the world.

Thirty meat and dairy exporters joined the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) at this year’s SIAL Paris show – an annual exhibition which attracts some of the most influential buyers from across the globe.

Held at the Paris Expo Centre until Thursday, the popular five-day show welcomed more than 160,000 visitors from 194 countries. It was the largest international marketplace for foodservice professionals seeking inspiration.

Under the banner of ‘Food is GREAT’, AHDB’s meat export team exhibited alongside more than 7,000 exhibitors from 105 countries to showcase high-quality produce from England, Scotland and Wales. The event also featured a selection of dairy produce from the UK in the British Dairy Pavilion.

AHDB international market development director Dr Phil Hadley said: “This is one of the most important exhibitions for our meat and dairy exporters as it provides an opportunity to highlight the exceptional quality, taste and welfare of our products to some of the most influential importers from around the world.

“Our presence at SIAL Paris was hugely important as we look to grow our meat and dairy exports across Europe and beyond. We showcased our world-leading produce and assisted our exporters in building new and vital relationships that secure business in key target markets.”

As well as the exhibition, AHDB’s export team hosted a Great British Food dinner which attracted over 250 guests, including representatives of French organisations, professional bodies and official authorities.

The initiative was financed as part of a £2 million fund of AHDB red meat levies ring-fenced for collaborative projects. This interim arrangement is in place while a long-term solution is sought on the issue of levies being collected at point of slaughter in England, for animals which have been reared in Scotland or Wales.
