Generation Farm was not like your average farming conference. I should know, I seem to spend half my life in stuffy rooms listening to old men tell other old men what everyone should do in a future that mortality will ensure doesn’t involve them. Generation farm had a very different atmosphere.
It wasn’t just the contingent from Harper Adams, including blogger, Emily Hickman, who came up with a piece giving a great flavour of the day. The organisers came up with a great line-up of speakers, with a few of the older generation, like the ever youthful Séan Rickard, but also with some, including chairman Tom Bradshaw, Jake Freestone of Overbury Farms or Jake Salt of Delamere Dairy, who represent a new generation in the UK agri-food sector.
At the end of the day I walked out with a bit of a spring in my step; not something you’d expect on a late November afternoon in Daventry. It was a great reminder that the industry has new people with new ideas breathing new life into it.
